LINCOLN HIGHWAY: First Anniversary of Sept. 11, Times Square, NYC

The Lincoln Highway, the first cross country road in the United States, was founded in 1913. Stretching roughly 3300 miles from Times Square in New York City to Lincoln Park in San Francisco, it is a microcosm of the country, passing through diverse and nuanced landscapes and communities, a living lesson in this country's history. My wife, Kass Mencher, and I have photographed along the road since 1997.
